My schedule for #Boskone63, February 13-15, 2026

I've been heading up to Boston in February for over 20 years now to attend the annual Boskone Regional Science Fiction convention and it's always exciting... partly because I never fail to worry about whether a winter storm will strand me somewhere. 

Regardless, I have my ticket there (and thankfully, a return ticket that says "Florida") so I'll be flying up on February 13 for New England's oldest science fiction convention. I'll also be on program again, so here's my schedule:

Sun 11:30 AM:          The Appeal of Simple Romance Stories: Not every epic romance needs a dragon to slay or a kingdom to save for two people to fall in love. More readers are embracing love stories that focus on healthy, low-drama relationships that are often shaped by ideas from therapy and emotional growth. Let's explore why these feel-good romances are resonating right now, and how authors are keeping the magic alive in stories where love just...works.

Sun 1:00 PM:            The Alchemy and Romance in Today's Fantasy Worlds: What happens when romance meets spellcraft? From true love's kiss to cursed exes and love that literally transforms people, we look at how romance in fantasy shapes the characters we love and the people who steal their hearts. We look at some of the best examples from the past and present and explore why these fantastical relationships work or fall apart.

HOW I SPENT MY SUMMER VACATION Worldcon (Denvention3) was fantastic. I arrived Wednesday in plenty of time for my 4:00 panel, Survival Tips for New Writers. The other panelists were David Coe and this year's Campbell Award winner, Mary Robinette Kowal, and along with the audience I picked up tips from them on how to improve my work habits. On Thursday I had a full day of panels. How do Ebooks Change Writing--an Ebook Writing Primer was intriguing, and moderator Dave Howell worked hard to keep us focused on the topic and not wandering off into weird ebook stories. We talked about interactive ebooks with hyperlinks, but also about how many readers seem content with ebooks simply being an exact copy of a print book delivered through different media. Aaaargh! The Pirate Panel was just what you might expect from the title, an exploration of why we like pirates so much, and where pirate history and mythology collide.
